Practicing Interdependence

Some Unitarian Universalist congregations regularly share their Sunday offering with causes and groups in their nearby community and beyond. The practice is to give part of the offering to a cause that reflects our values.

Would your congregation consider sharing the plate for International Convocation of U*U Women (ICUUW)? We know there are many causes you'd like to support, and we appreciate your thoughtful consideration.

We are a global partnership of Unitarian Universalists who work for women’s empowerment through Unitarian Universalist connections around the world.

ICUUW advances equity for women and girls worldwide through leadership development, empowerment and awareness programs, advocacy, and resources.

Led by Unitarian Universalist women from around the world, its members include Unitarian Universalists and other people of liberal religious faith.

ICUUW could not do the work that it does today without the support of congregations, many of which take up special collections for ICUUW on or around International Women's Day or other pertinent dates.

How does share the plate work?

Each congregation has its own way of making these decisions. Here are some ideas!

• Talk to your congregation's decision makers, often the board, minister, and/or social justice committee and ask that they consider supporting the work of ICUUW. Share some resources with them:

  • Our Newsletters or Latest News

  • Brief videos

• Announce the date of the “Share the Plate” and talk about ICUUW in your newsletter, social media, bulletin boards, and the pulpit;

• On the day of the service, show congregants the work ICUUW is doing;

  • Talk about your connection to ICUUW, and how you connect with us

  • Make connections between your congregation’s interests and our work

  • Use one of the videos above during the service
