"We must all do more to lift up women and girls in every walk of life” (António Guterres, UN Secretary-General, 19 September 2022)
During the global health crisis, many women informal workers in Kenya - relying on daily wages - lost their livelihoods. COVID-19 has also exacerbated gender-based violence and health inequalities. In October 2022, ICUUW teamed up with Kenyan NGO Tunawiri Pamoja, founded by ICUUW board member Noel Lutomia, for a Faithify campaign to help 25 marginalized young Kenyan women thrive.
Your support will provide training focused on sexual and reproductive health and rights, property rights, as well as entrepreneurship for 25 young women (aged 18-35) from disadvantaged backgrounds in or near Mumias town, Kakamega County, Kenya. As a way of giving back to the community, project beneficiaries will participate in outreach activities to transfer the learned skills and knowledge to other informal traders and adolescent girls in Mumias.
"When we build a world where those furthest from economic opportunity have an equal chance to thrive and lead, we build a world that’s more peaceful and more resistant to shocks." (Melinda French Gates, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, April 2022).
Thank you to all our kind-hearted donors! We have surpassed our goal, raising $3,327 toward the project!
